What You'll Learn

The first year of Haslam’s Full-Time MBA builds a foundation of business knowledge and professional skills. The second year develops expertise for specialized interests and goals in a concentration area. Core courses are conducted in teams and students gain real-world knowledge and skills through case competitions, project-based work, a required internship and a global learning experience.

Key Components

Prep Course Week: An optional week of classes providing an overview of accounting, finance, statistics and Excel prior to the commencement of the first semester for accepted Haslam Full-Time MBA students. This program is designed for non-business majors and other students needing a business fundamentals refresher. Prep Course Week fees must be paid before students can participate.

LEAP Week: The first week of the Full-Time MBA program in which you LEAP: learn, engage, assess and present. Team building, presentation and negotiation skills and career development are the focus.

Business Skills Module: A practical skills course covering effective presentation and writing, use of technology-related platforms and career development, including cutting-edge job search techniques, self-marketing and correspondence, and networking.

Case Competitions and Consulting Projects: The first three sessions of the first year end with an integrated internal case competition reflecting current business issues. The fourth session concludes with presentations that are the culmination of a seven-and-a-half-week consulting project for a non-profit. Select Haslam teams also compete in external case competitions including SEC, Deloitte, and National Black.

Internship: During the required summer internship, students apply the skills they have learned, develop valuable experience and build their professional network.

Global Business Seminar: At the end the first year, students obtain a firsthand look at the cultural, administrative and economic complexities of conducting business internationally through the Global Business Experience.

In the spring of the first year, students will choose a concentration area from one of five options. Concentration requirements typically include nine credit hours in a student’s last semester of the program and provide a deep dive into a functional area of business.
