CARROLL, SIDNEY LEE - 72, passed away on April 22, 2012 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. He was a former resident of Knoxville, Tennessee and Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on December 27, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents Dixon and Elizabeth Carroll. He was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport and served in the U.S. Army. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in economics from Louisiana State University, and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. After teaching at Louisiana State University for several years, he joined the University of Tennessee faculty and taught economics until his retirement. He also worked for United Gas and did consulting work for the Tennessee Valley Authority and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His survivors include his devoted wife of 49 years, Elizabeth (Blewer) Carroll of Arlington, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Carroll and Jennifer Manning of Columbia, MD; daughter, Catherine Carroll of Alexandria, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Irwin and Claudia Carroll of Bryan, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Blewer of Plano, Texas; sister-in-law, Julia Blewer of Shreveport, LA; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Cherry Blewer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews. Condolences may be sent to his wife, Elizabeth Carroll, 2400 Clarendon Boulevard #201, Arlington, VA 22201. Cremation was by Old Town Funeral Choices, Alexandria. VA. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, www.blindness.org. The family would like to thank the staff of Inova Fairfax Hospital for their care and support. |
