T. Boone Pickens, American business magnate and financier, participated in a roundtable with students from the Haslam College of Business at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy. Pickens founded Mesa petroleum in 1956 and later became famous for acquiring other oil and gas companies including Gulf Oil and Phillips Petroleum. In 1997, he founded hedge fund BP (Boone Pickens) Capital Management, which he chairs today. Pickens has been honored for his leadership in oil and other types of energy production, including domestic renewable energy, and philanthropy including education, medical research and wildlife conservation.
